The Madison County animal shelter has been overwhealmed with calls today as potential adopters flooded the phones with interest in adopting a bulldog mix on the euthanasia list. The dog had been marked for death today if no home was found.
According to the Tennessean, "The (original) story cited a Facebook post that claimed the dog's former owner dropped it off at the shelter because it humped another male dog." The owner reportedly told shelter workers that he did not want "a gay dog" and left him to an unknown fate.
The dog's story spread like wildfire as his time quickly ran out and many rallied to try and save his life. One person who saw the story circulating came and adopted the dog earlier today.
"I have had about 10 million calls this morning," said an anonymous staff member. "He's in good hands."
The small shelter may have had trouble keeping up with the phones today, but they hope that those who wanted to save the dog with such popularity would consider adopting another instead.
