Early Thursday afternoon, Detroit Police Department officers patrolling Patton Park in Southwest Detroit found a young dog who had been skinned from the back of her neck to her ears; skin and fur just flopped onto one side of the dog's head. The dog was found wandering on Woodmere Street.
Providing for Paws, a non profit organization in Michigan providing assistance to low income families with pets, was contacted by authorities to help. When they arrived, the representatives were shocked to see the dog had been skinned in the worst case of animal cruelty they had ever seen.
On the organization's Facebook page, Providing for Paws stated:
"This was NOT an accident, someone purposely skinned this dog from the back of its neck all way up to its ears. The cuts are purfect (sic) and deliberate!"
The dog has been named Patty and is currently being cared for at an emergency vet in Ann Arbor. She is believed to be a terrier mix and approximately five years old. Patty is black, white, and brown with large standing ears. She weighs between 10 and 15 pounds and is wearing chipped reddish nail polish on her toes.
Authorities are searching for the owner of this dog.
No one can understand how anyone could inflict such egregious cruelty to a sweet dog.
