According to Monday's AZ Family News, a young pit bull died in Phoenix, Ariz., after being left inside of a black SUV which was parked at the Christown Spectrum Mall yesterday afternoon.
The dog, who was just six months to one year of age, was spotted inside of the vehicle by a mall security guard - though the dog appeared to be in distress, a window was not broken out. Instead, the police were called and a search was made for the vehicle's owner.
By the time that the authorities arrived and the owner showed up, it was too late - the triple digit outdoor temperature had taken its toll on the dog, who died from heat-related issues during the hour plus time period that the woman was shopping inside of the air-conditioned mall.
The woman was questioned by Phoenix police, but she was not arrested.
The pup's body was turned over to the Maricopa County Animal Care and Control - an investigation into the situation is underway.
