New Zealand -- A dog bite situation typically traces back to poor ownership. In other cases, you can blame the bite on the bite victim – doing something that they should not have been doing.
On Wednesday, a New Zealand man learned the hard way that it’s best not to hold down a dog and attempt to pull his tongue. The man that attempted this stupid stunt suffered serious injuries as a result.
According to one report, the injured man was drinking at a party when he decided to wrestle a dog to the ground and yank on his tongue. After the dog maneuvered his way out of the partygoer’s hands, he lunged at the man’s face, inflicting serious wounds.
As a result, the man lost a lot of blood. The first medical center that he was taken to was not equipped to handle his injuries and he was flown to Waikato Hospital where he is now listed in stable condition.
The dog was impounded for a night, and then returned to his owner the next day.
One of the authorities on this case, Constable Conrad Smith, made an interesting comment:
“It was not a pit bull or anything. It was an old dog; it has been around for a long time."
I've said it before -- any dog can bite. There is no need for special words of wisdom on this one -- the bottom line, treat dogs with respect.
