A handsome, young German shepherd named, "AJ," has died and his owner, Chester County, S.C., Sheriff Alex Underwood, believes that his death was the result of poisoning.
According to Wednesday's Charlotte Observer, the newly elected sheriff, who also happens to be the county's first African-American sheriff, took to Facebook to comment on his dog's cruel death.
He wrote:
“For those of you who have threatened me and my family, hide behind Facebook and have now taken action to poison our dog, AJ,”
“This is a criminal act and you are low life and scum,”
“Do what you have to do and say what you have to say, but be man enough to say and do it to me.”
AJ died early Monday. The dog had been left in Underwood's yard on Sunday while he attended Chester's Martin Luther King parade.
According to the Associated Press, the 19-month-old dog was in training to become a working police dog.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
