A dog in Italy attends mass at a church where his owner's funeral was held in hopes that she'll return, Daily Mail reports Jan. 17. Tommy is a seven-year-old German Shepherd that was adopted by Maria Margherita Lochi after she found him wandering in fields near her home. The woman -- who died at the age of 57 two months ago -- had other stray dogs she adopted, but was most bonded with Tommy. He would join her walks to mass and sit next to her in church.
Now that Maria is gone, Tommy still attends mass at the church hoping for his own miracle. Churchgoers consider him a part of the congregation. Photos seen here of the loyal dog show his devotion to his dead owner.
Father Donato Panna of the church said Tommy is very well behaved at mass. He didn't have the heart to throw him out after his owner's funeral. He lost a dog of his own not long ago and has compassion for the lost pet. Tommy sits at the end of the altar and never barks.
Everyone one in the village has adopted the dog and cares for him near the church. They leave food and look out for him. Father Panna notes that it would be nice if someone found an appropriate home for Tommy.
