Dog and paralyzed kitten abandoned and the amazing story of their friendship

A protective dog and a partially-paralyzed kitten, abandoned together last October, may be one of the most endearing duos you ever read about, reported Friday's ABC 7 News.

Ruth is unable to move her rear legs, but her devoted friend, "Idgie," is always at the ready to ensure that no one harms her.

Ruth and Idgie were rescued by Seminole County Animal Services - at the time of their rescue, Idgie's protective nature was apparent. Idgie would do her utmost to ward off anyone who tried to approach her "differently-abled" companion.

Though Ruth and Idgie did not appear to be neglected, they were alone when they were found and Idgie's limited mobility makes the possibility of them being runaways unlikely; nobody ever came to reclaim the duo.

The facility tried various treatments for Ruth's legs, but nothing seemed to help. It appears to be of little consequence to the kitten who seems to be blissfully unaware that there is a problem with her body.

There are no worries that the best friends will not spend the remainder of their days together because they have been adopted and spend every ounce of their time with each other.

Home is now at Hollywood Houndz Boutique & Spa in Lake Mary, Fla.

It is a wonderful situation for Idgie and Ruth - the pair spends their days being showered with attention and surrounded in comfort.

When they are not the center of human attention, they appear to be the center of each other's world - nuzzling, playing and interacting with sheer and utter devotion.
