Dog accidentally shoots his owner

The Highlands Today, a division of The Tampa Tribune, had a unique story on February 23.

Apparently, a Sebring, FL man, Gregory Dale Lanier, age 35, was driving in his truck with his dog. His dog was on the floor of the truck when he kicked Gregory's (supposedly unloaded) .380 pistol.

Imagine Gregory's surprise when he heard a loud "boom,"saw smoke, and then "felt a burning in my leg."

The victim was not seriously injured, but was surprised to find out that the gun was not only loaded, but actually was a 9 mm pistol, not a .380 pistol.

Sebring Police Commander Steve Carr said that the police did not arrest the dog nor detain the animal, although there is an investigation pending. Commander Carr said that he has never heard of a case like this.

The Sebring police also ruled the shooting accidental.
