Youngstown, Ohio - The abuse and killing of dogs is continuing in Mahoning County. This is the scene for another case of animal abuse -- the third this week alone.
On Wednesday afternoon, February 8, a dog was found hanging from a tree near Salt Springs Road, where they believe it had been for three or four days.
This was not far from where a female black lab was found with a portion of her leg and tail cut off.
Dave Nelson, Mahoning County Deputy Dog Warden, said they will be checking with area businesses and security cameras to try to find the person(s) responsible for these horrendous acts of animal cruelty.
The injured dog, who was very gentle and loving despite her injuries, has undergone surgery and will be adopted by a man who works for a dog warden.
The Mahoning County Dog Warden's office is investigating several cases: Two dogs were tossed over a bridge on Monday; the two dead puppies found bound and gagged, at the WRTA bus station at the end of January that we reported about yesterday; and the two cases we're reporting now.
Rewards are being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any of these dog abuse cases. If you have any information, you are asked to call the Mahoning County Dog Warden's Office at (330) 740-2205.
Many are calling for the passing of HB 108 (Nitro's Law), named after a family dog, Nitro, who was one of eight dogs found starved to death, at High Caliber K9 Training facility in Youngstown, Ohio.
Nitro's Law was created as a felony provision and proactive legislative measure to increase the outdated misdemeanor-only penalties currently in place for violent animal crimes in the state of Ohio.
This is a very frightening time for pet owners in Youngstown, Ohio. Please keep a watchful eye on your pets to keep them safe. We hope that whomever is responsible is found quickly and is punished for these horrendous acts of violence.
