You might as well use the good stuff
Whether you are using vinegar in a recipe or as a healthful additive to beverages, you might as well use a vinegar that not only adds flavor but is rich in nutrients and anti-oxidants too. A vinegar such as Bragg Cider Vinegar will provide the most bang for your buck.
Apple cider vinegar has been used medicinally for hundreds of years; Hippocrates noted its healthful properties as far back as 400 B.C. Cider vinegar is rich in potassium and enzymes, and is used as a digestive aid; mixed with honey it is commonly used to sooth irritated throats. Cider vinegar is a good source of anti-oxidants and is therefore reputed to ease arthritis and strengthen the immune system.
Bragg Organic Cider Vinegar (OCV) is made from organically grown apples and aged in wooden barrels; it is Certified Organic by Organic Certifiers and Oregon Tilth. It is Kosher Certified and requires no refrigeration.
Mom, is that you?
Commercial vinegar is produced via a rapid fermentation method; Bragg vinegar is produced utilizing a slow fermentation method. The fermentation culture grows on the surface of the liquid, allowing for an accumulation of enzymes and acetic bacteria known as the “mother” of the vinegar.
The mother is sediment which forms at the bottom of the vinegar during fermentation, and many people claim that the health benefits of the vinegar come from substances within the mother. The vinegar is not heated, nor filtered nor pasteurized, so the mother and the accompanying live acetic (good) bacteria stay with the vinegar.
Braggs OCV has a 5% acidity and by aging in wooden barrels, it retains a taste like sour apple cider. It can be used to add tanginess to salads, stir fries, soups and stews, or you can just mix a couple teaspoons vinegar and a couple teaspoons honey to a glass of water and drink it for the healthful benefits.
