Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you who may be celebrating. Many of you have special people in your lives, and hopefully a great chance to celebrate your union.
But what about our furry friends today? What are they going to do with all those hearts and flowers roaming about? Shouldn’t we pay homage to them as well? Or maybe they’re already celebrating in their own way…
We have three cats. You’d think this would be recipe for feline romance, but that’s hardly the case. Our middle “child” Milly gets along with our eldest, Sparky, a 14-year-old male Siamese, and the docile Holly, an 8-year-old Ragdoll. I wouldn’t call these relationships romantic, but Milly can be seen grooming both cats upon occasion. I guess that’s a form of love?
Our eldest cat Sparky loves to smell the butt of our youngest, Holly. After he gets a nice long whiff, his mouth opens and he looks like he’s getting ready to make a speech. “Gee, your ass smells nice Holly. How about a kiss?” Isn’t that touching?
Holly loves to hone in on Milly’s wet food, and Milly gladly allows this. Giving up the food bowl to your sibling? Now that’s true Valentine behavior.
The pillows are always a source of true romantic behavior. Often Sparky will climb on top of Milly simply to score some corner of the pillow. There could even been an empty pillow nearby, but Sparky insists on lying right next to Milly. Now that’s devotion.
Our little ones mean so much to us. Let’s not forget them today. In whatever fashion you celebrate this holiday, let us be thankful for the furry friends in our lives, and the great source of comfort they give us every day of the year.
