Does this mean God loves the Patriots' Tom Brady more than he loves Tim Tebow?

Up until the Denver Broncos' devastating loss to the New England Patriots on January 14, 2012, everyone except Bill Maher seemed to think that Tim Tebow had a direct line to the Pearly Gates. Fans even recorded a halo hovering above mile high stadium during one of Tebow's best games.

Now that Tom Brady and the Super-Pats have derailed Tim Tebow's path to the Super Bowl, fans who ascribed Tebow's success to his faith are left scratching their heads. Perhaps God wasn't guiding Tebow's hands after all. Maybe Tim Tebow is just a really good quarterback and a pretty decent person to boot. That's no reason to give up on God and football, but maybe there's less of a connection between the two than Tebow's fans had hoped.

USA Today reported: "Anyone with a well-developed handle on the meaning of Christian faith will tell you that God's presence is not something that waxes and wanes like the fortunes of football players. This is one big reason why it has proved so compelling to so many people over the ages. As Tebow's bad games and errant passes attest, a football player's victories and stat-sheet digits are no place to look for Christianity's vindication."

The next time you think God is responsible for the success of your favorite sports team, ask yourself whether a God who doesn't reach out his hands to help starving orphans or earthquake victims is really sending the New England Patriots to the Super Bowl. God surely loves Tom Brady, but he doesn't love him like that.

What do you think? Does the Denver Broncos crushing loss to the New England Patriots prove that God loves Tom Brady more than he loves Tim Tebow, or does it prove that faith has nothing to do with football?
