As the nation suffer through day two of the Republican constructed shutdown, some things have become crystal clear to anyone with the desire to look beyond the rhetoric and see it for what it really is. When Obama was elected in 2008, he became the first African-American to hold the most powerful position in our government. I know all the assertions that the president is merely a figure head controlled by big business, the Illuminati, or some other special interest group.
In that election in 2008, Obama defeated John McCain along with Sarah Palin and the Tea Party was born. If you haven’t forgotten, Sarah Palin was the darling of the Tea Party and some even touted her as the next president to succeed Barack Obama. The racist undertones and the character assassination of Obama became the staple of this newly created faction of the Republican Party.
Riding this wave of hatred for Obama coupled with the Republicans gaining leadership in the House in 2010, the stage was set to make Obama an asterisk in American history. The game plan was to obstruct and deny anything Obama proposed and look for reasons to impeach him. I could give several instances where this play was used but for the sake of time, I’ll just mention Benghazi, Fast and Furious, IRS, NSA, and of course that thing about his birth certificate.
Surely with all the obstruction and character assassinations, Mitt Romney should have been a shoe-in to win this coveted office from the supposed Kenyan in 2012. My reference to being a Kenyan is not to suggest that he is, but to make you aware that there are those who believe he is. It’s this belief that's driving the division in Washington that we are experiencing today.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out this reality. If the Republican Party disrespects the office of the President so much, why do they go through such pains to possess it? The answer is clear. They don’t disrespect the office; they just disrespect the person who now holds the office. When Obama campaigned on “Fundamentally Changing America,” he didn’t realize that his mere election had already done that. Surely you remember the slogan, “Hope and Change.” The Tea Party was created to deny this nation of any such Hope and even less Change.
I personally concluded when Obama had such a problem getting his Cabinet situated that the Republican Party wanted to punish this nation for ever electing an African-American as President. Surely you remember the Tea Party slogan, “I want my country back,” This slogan was code for “Get that Nigger out of our White House.” If the use of the “N” word offends you, it’s a direct quote from signs displayed openly by those who claimed to love Freedom and Patriotism.
What we are experiencing today is merely a manifestation of this hatred for Obama inflicted on the populous that elected him. That’s the reason that the will of the people is continually ignored and no bill has been passed that would benefit the general population. In other words, these people would rather see the entire nation go to Hell in a hand basket rather than to accept the fact that we actually did get “Hope and Change.” But the fundamentally changing America part is a heavy lift because you can’t legislate moral equity nor can you eliminate bigotry and hatred.
Too bad these people are in position to hold the purse string of the nation, but with patience and perseverance, we can solve that problem as well. It’s called the next Election. In 2014, I’m advocating that all these rebellious and reactionary Tea Party folk will be sent back to their Tea Party districts so they can produce sign and protest against the next democratically elected President. As you know, they just really hate government, but they hate this Black president even more.
