Although these are completely different ways of thinking - church versus the psychics, it is interesting to note that both have the same view of animals in the afterlife. Several animals are presented as living beings in heaven in many Scriptures in the Bible:
Many may debate the scriptures in the Bible. We all have our own different interpretations. In my own near-death experience, I felt the presence of my loving animals. What the Bible scriptures say is of great comfort as it speaks of animals in Heaven.
In the New International Version (NIV) Matthew 25:40 it is written “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ I would like to think that our Lord also meant his precious creatures of this earth as did Saint Francis of Assisi.
One might question, “Do animals have souls?” Another passage in the Bible says, “"For the fate of the sons of men and the fate of beasts is the same. As one dies so dies the other; indeed, they all have the same breath and there is no advantage for man over beast, for all is vanity. All go to the same place. All came from the dust and all return to the dust. Who knows that the breath [spirit] of man ascends upward and the breath [spirit] of the beast descends downward to the earth?" Ecclesiastes 3:19-21
Revelations 5:8 And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
Isaiah 11:6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
Isaiah 65:25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.
The spiritualists and those supposedly gifted with “sight” say:
Considered to be the greatest living medium to date, George Anderson also says in one of his books that our pets and other animals often welcome people to the afterlife and this is especially true when a child passes. The late Sylvia Browne, a famous medium, says our pets come to greet us first when we cross over, that our human loved ones have to wait.
Chris's near-death experience about the "animal heaven" also rings familiar. Animal communicator Amelia Kinkade’s book, Straight From The Horse's Mouth speaks of "vast animal sanctuaries" in the afterlife, where animals are happy and healthy -- and have some human attendants. She speculated that St. Francis of Assisi would be among them -- though they can also stay with our human loved ones on the other side, and they can visit us here on earth when they wish.
So, for now and until I shall pass over as well, I firmly believe that the Rainbow Bridge will be there for our dogs, cats and all creatures of the earth that we loved in our lifetime. I think that I would agree with Biblical scripture, Sylvia, George, Amelia, and the late Bryce Bond and with what I would imagine my beloved Saint Francis of Assisi might say. . .”Yes, there is a Rainbow Bridge.”
As animals are part of the "visible universe," it seems possible that they too might share "their glorification in the risen Jesus Christ." It might be possible that God might also re-create those animals who have been a pleasure and comfort to man in his earthly journey. We don't know in this life, but it is something for which we can hope.
Explain to your children that heaven will have all that is needed for our perfect happiness. If they need their pet with them in Heaven in order to be perfectly happy, their pet will be there. As adults we realize that God alone suffices for perfect happiness; but we also know that God, in his great love for us, gives us more than our mere necessities and that his love is reflected to us in his creation. It may be that our animal friends' presence in the next life will be God's gift to us.
