For many years, people have thought that the popular MTV reality show "Teen Mom" encouraged teens to have kids because of glorified lifestyles -- "have a kid really young and you could be famous." However, a new report suggests that the show actually discourages teens from having kids -- and perhaps has even prevented a number of teen pregnancies.
Apparently "Teen Mom" and "16 and Pregnant" could influence teens both ways. One study suggests that teens are more inclined to have kids at a younger age because they have glamorized views of teen pregnancy. However, another study came out that suggests just the opposite. A study conducted showed that the show "16 and Pregnant" actually prevented 20,000 teen births back in 2010.
Researchers studied teens living in high MTV viewership areas and noticed a decline in teen pregnancies. So, what do you make of all of this? Do shows like "Teen Mom" and "16 and Pregnant" help deter kids from wanted to have babies at a young age or does it influence them to go for it? Sound off in the comments below.
