Selena Gomez recently announced plans to canceled the Asian leg of her Stars Dance Tour, and now, fans may be finding out more behind why the former Disney star opted out of the shows.
According to a new report, Selena was diagnoses with Lupus years ago and has recently began experiencing flare ups which have caused facial swelling, extreme fatigue, headaches, and joint pain.
"Selena has been going full throttle the past few years and her Lupus is really catching up with her right now," a source told Popdust on December 27. "She knows that she needs to take some time to address the disease and look after herself better if she wants to live a full and healthy life."
Last week, Selena released a statement to press, explaining that she needed to take some time out of her busy schedule to focus on herself, but didn't reveal any details about why or what she would be doing during the time off.
Also on December 27, Radar Online explained that Lupus "is a chronic inflammatory disease that occurs when the body’s immune system attacks their own tissues and organs, the Mayo Clinic states — and while there’s no cure for Lupus, treatments can help control the symptoms."
Although Lupus is incurable, it can be treated and managed and sufferers are expected to live a normal lifespan.
Other celebrities who have suffered from Lupus include Nick Cannon, Michael Jackson, and Toni Braxton.
