Does MTV LAAF best?

According to producer John Andrews, the Los Angeles Animation Festival (LAAF) officially has issued its public request for entries in five competitions related to its 2012 event.  The festival dates will be March 7-11, and the venue will be the Regent Showcase Cinema in West Hollywood, California.  Contest submissions should be postmarked by Tuesday, February 14, 2012.  All winners will be honored at an awards ceremony during the festivities.

The 2012 categories are Best Short (20 minutes or less), Best Feature (audience award), Best TV episode (11-30 minutes), Best Animated Music Video, and Best Animation on the Edge.

A major partner in the 2012 event is the new incarnation of the MTV series Liquid Television. As a contest sponsor, Liquid Television will award a $5,000 development deal to the winner of the Animation on the Edge category.  This classification includes revolutionary humor, story telling or technique in animation targeting teens or adults.

The 2012 LAAF will feature screenings of theatrical films and shorts, as well as seminars, panels, contests, and parties.  Details of official festival activities will be posted online in the near future.  Also forthcoming is the announcement of the 2012 festival honoree.

Animator/filmmaker Miles Flanagan and producer John Andrews created LAAF in 2007 with the mission of screening unseen work and creating a venue for networking among professionals and new talent. The festival has enjoyed two previously successful occurrences at the Silent Movie Theater on Fairfax Avenue in West Hollywood.
