Justin Bieber (born March 1, 1994, in London, Ontario) rose from a talent show when he was twelve years old to an international singing sensation in less than five years. Now, at the age of eighteen, he is an international star. Justin was discovered in 2008 by American talent manager Scott “Scooter” Braun, who found Bieber's videos that his mother had posted on YouTube. Braun soon became his manager.
The teenage pop sensation has been involved in more than one religious controversy. In 2011, when he was performing in Israel, there was a major hubbub when his meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu. Sometime in the same year he had the name “Jesus” in Hebrew (“Yeshua”) tattooed over his rib cage.
There was a rumor circulating for a while, that Justin was studying Kabbalah, like Madonna. This is simply not true. His manager, Scott "Scooter" Braun, had taught him how to say the “Shema”, the Holiest Jewish Prayer, which Justin says with his stage crew, followed by a Christian prayer, before every performance.
What exactly is the Shema? The full version is composed of three Biblical Passages, namely, Deuteronomy 6:4-9, Deuteronomy 11:13-21, and Numbers 15:37-41. For incredibly detailed information, follow this link. Most people that are not Ultra-Orthodox Jews say only the first word, “Shema”, which means “listen” or “obey”, or alternatively, the whole first sentence is enough. It is as follows:
Sh'ma Yis'ra'eil Adonai Eloheinu Adonai echad.
Hear, Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is One.
This declaration of YHWH’s absolute Oneness was so important that Jesus of Nazareth mentions it in Mark 12:29. This would be counter to most Trinitarian teachings, wouldn’t it? The Name “Israel” was given to Jacob, the ancestor of the Jewish people, after he wrestled with an Angel. “Adonai” is a vocalization of the Name ‘YHVH”.
