According to a March 16 report from Yahoo! Sports, Carlos Condit is set to battle Johny Hendricks in the co-main event of the historic UFC 158: St-Pierre vs Diaz event in Montreal, Canada.
“I’m looking for redemption. My last fight didn’t go the way that I wanted it to, and I’m looking to come back with a vengeance and put myself right back in title contention,” said Condit. “Every fight is your biggest fight, and this fight is extremely important because I need to solidify myself as one of the top guys in the division. I’m just trying to win this fight and put myself in position to possibly get a title shot.”
For Condit to get past Hendricks, he's going to have to counter one of the toughest left hands in combat sports. He's also going to need to find a way to land punches to Hendricks' chin, despite the wrestler's manly tuft of facial hair.
“Johny Hendricks is a phenomenal wrestler, a great striker. He has made a great transition from wrestling into mixed martial arts and it’s going to be a really tough fight,” Condit said of his UFC 158 fight, apparently oblivious to his opponent's dangerous beard. “I’m definitely aware of what he can do. I have to be cognizant of his talents, his abilities.
“I think we’re going to put on an amazing show. Johny and myself really want this win, and we have a great skill set to make an exciting fight.”
Does Hendricks' beard provide him a slight advantage over Condit during UFC 158?
UFC star Miesha Tate seems to think so.
"I bet [having a beard] helps the punches slide off the chin instead of sticking," Tate said via Twitter.
No real studies have been done on the benefits of chin whiskers inside the cage, but at least Hendricks looks handsome with the style.
