Depression knows no boundaries. It doesn’t latch on to certain races, religions or demographics. It is no respecter of people, places or professions. Are there ways to prevent this crippling demon from getting its claws on us? Are there steps we can take to stop from getting drug into the darkness without sight of light at the end of tunnel? Here are three tips to help dodge depression.
Don't Deflect - When we find ourselves getting bit by the blues, our perspective tends to be tainted. When people try to show appreciation, don't push away their kind words. When we deflect compliments we are resisting positive energy that is trying to make way into our lives! Learn to receive goodness into your day without batting it away. If you are one who should have gotten your PhD in deflecting, here is how to change this pattern: Acknowledge the compliment when given. Pause and absorb the positive flow of appreciation and say thank you. It's ok to feel good about something you have done without explaining the 52 ways it didn't go the way you thought it should have gone! By allowing yourself to enjoy positive feelings, you are expanding your ability to see and enjoy the goodness. So many things in life are waiting for you to respond before unveiling delightful results.
Down Play Disagreements - Much of life takes place in cycles of repetition. You may have noticed that as things are perking up and you are about to receive a break through, conflict will raise its ugly head. Don't get caught in the chaos of arguments. There is nothing that can shut down the positive flow of energy in one's life quicker than negative talk. It has a way of turning our focus from possibilities to complaints and criticisms. The worst part about arguments is that they can run a course of hours, days or decades!
Do for Others - get focused on someone else who needs help. Productivity is probably the best remedy for the depression demon. When we push ourselves to look for a need outside of our own, we tend to move in a forward motion. When we allow our thoughts to gravitate toward meeting the needs of others, a wonderful thing happens; our needs get met!
Depression is the act of holding you back from relishing in the life you were meant to live; free from fear and intimidation. Decide today you want to live a new way. Uncover the tactics you wish to pursue with positive forward thinking motion. What do you want your life to be? All things are possible to them that believe!
