If your dachshund shows signs of spinal problems, in addition to heading to the vet, you might want to check out Dodger's List, an online resource for the owners of doxies with back disorders.

When a dachsie's back or neck is injured, either from a physical accident or from IVDD, you may not be aware of all your options.

Although most veterinarians are adept at caring for injured dachshunds, their hands-on experience is often limited to having cared for only a dozen or so doxies with spinal problems. They often recommend surgery, which may not be the best choice for your doxie.

Dodger's List hosts a database of more than 1,800 user entries containing data about their dogs. Although the folks who run the site are NOT vets, the sheer volume of data they've collected provides deep insight into what has worked for other disabled dachshunds and what has not.

An active message board connects owners of injured dachshunds, giving them the opportunity to share their own experiences.
An excellent source of educational materials, Dodger's List offers an comprehensive collection of articles about prevention, emergencies and the logistics of caring for a disabled dachshund, including incontinece, crate rest and different post-injury therapies.
Perhaps one of the best features of the site is their collection of full-color printable flyers and brochures about spinal injuries, which are especially handy for people who often interact with the public.
If your dachshund has experienced a spinal injury, please consider taking a few moments to participate in the Dodger's List data collection project. You'll not only contribute valuable information for an important cause, but also find a community in which you can find real answers.
