If your dachshund shows signs of spinal problems, in addition to heading to the vet, you might want to check out Dodger's List, an online resource for the owners of doxies with back disorders.
When a dachsie's back or neck is injured, either from a physical accident or from IVDD, you may not be aware of all your options.
Although most veterinarians are adept at caring for injured dachshunds, their hands-on experience is often limited to having cared for only a dozen or so doxies with spinal problems. They often recommend surgery, which may not be the best choice for your doxie.
Dodger's List hosts a database of more than 1,800 user entries containing data about their dogs. Although the folks who run the site are NOT vets, the sheer volume of data they've collected provides deep insight into what has worked for other disabled dachshunds and what has not.
