Almost 300 runners headed to Schodack Island State Park yesterday for the 9th annual Dodge the Deer 5K, hosted by the Albany Running Exchange. The overall winner was Josh Merlis, who finished strong in 16:48. Following Merlis was Tim Van Orden in 17:03. A minute and a half back was a fight for third place that was won by Bryan Kelly who crossed the in 18:35 and was followed by Joshua Liainski in 18:36.

The first female was youngster Sydney Shaw who, at age 14, finished in 21:11. Susana Garcia Romer placed second with a time of 22:38 and Julia Hotmer Murphy finished in 23:01 to take third place.
