Last night, a labor of love 15 years in the making premiered on a public television station in Maryland. "Bayou: D.C.'s Killer Joint" tells the story of the legendary music hall in Georgetown, under the Whitehurst Freeway for the locals, with several clips of Springsteen and other members of the E Street Band performing there.
The club was a mecca for live music and all the greats from 1939 on would drop in and get up on stage. In the '70s and '80s, it was the best place to see a show in D.C. and you really could never predict who you might find enjoying the show with you.
The show aired last night at 9 p.m. and was replayed twice overnight. There's a trailer on a blog dedicated to the film. Check out the documentary's website here

I will report back of future opportunities to see this documentary. If you're from the D.C. area and of a certain age, it will surely be a treat, but Springsteen fans, Southside Johnny fans and music history in general would appreciate the rare footage it features.
