Whovians rejoice! New episodes of Doctor Who return Saturday, March 30. BBC America announced the news on Wednesday morning via Twitter. The show will be airing on the same day in the United Kingdom on BBC One. 2013 celebrates the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, which first aired in 1963.
Since the first episode, “Unearthly Child”, Doctor Who has captured the imaginations of people across the globe. The show is the continuing story of a Timelord known only as “The Doctor”, who explores the whole of space and time with a variety of companions, both human and otherwise.
Doctor Who has always been popular among science fiction an fantasy fans, but in recent years it has become increasingly popular in mainstream entertainment as well. BBC America reported earlier this month that the show’s Nielson ratings have far outpaced any other show on their network. With an increasing fanbase, Whovians, Doctor Who fans, can expect to see more of their favorite time traveler, even after the 50th anniversary year passes.
