'Doctor Who' -- making a movie with Johnny Depp?

Is a "Doctor Who" movie coming?
Is a "Doctor Who" movie coming?

Even though "Doctor Who" is still airing on television with Matt Smith in the lead role, that apparently hasn't stopped talk of there being a big-screen adaptation for the popular sci-fi series.

According to a new report from Perez Hilton (citing a previously published article), Russell Davies (the former show-runner) has secured Johnny Depp to play the starring role in a "Doctor Who" movie at some point in 2012.

However, there's one major problem with this story -- the original report has already been removed from the internet. This may be because the news wasn't supposed to get out yet, but it may also be simply because it's not actually happened.

The movie idea is bad enough, there's no need for a movie when the show has been so amazing for so many years, and no no no, no Johnny Depp as the Doctor ... Dreadful choice for the character.

Johnny Depp is a terrible choice to play the Doctor. Absolutely terrible. I love Johnny Depp and he's quite a bit more than easy on the eyes, but he is not Doctor material. Not by any means.

Love Johnny Depp but hate the idea of Depp playing the Doctor. Doctor Who is too good the way it is... don't change it!

Depp is to dark for the doctor. The doctor needs to be light but serious I think. Like how he usually is. Johnny Depp just CANNOT do the doctor justice.

Oh no, love Depp as an actor, but this is one role I hope he never touches. I am enjoying Matt Smith in the role, and I don't want to see this get smashed.

    Noooo! David Tennant please!

By putting Johnny Depp in the titular role of the Doctor, it would turn the entire franchise into a joke! I love that we got David Tennant for as long as we did these last few years, and now we have Matt--why not drop the idea of a DW movie because it would only further Americanize a very popular British icon---and that would truly "suck", so to speak. I'm from Southern California and I'm a big DW fan, and the hubby and I only see Johnny Depp as lampooning the character we so dearly love. It's like Jay Leno's rip off idea of starting a "Top Gear" for the US...that'll be stupid. Anyway, I hope that they drop the idea of Johnny Depp, for I might find myself hiding from the proposed film.
