We may have only gotten a brief look at Peter Capaldi as the Doctor so far, first in the 50th anniversary special, "The Day of the Doctor," and then in the "Doctor Who" Christmas special, "The Time of the Doctor," Matt Smith's farewell episode, but on Tuesday, Jan. 7, BBC America released the first image of Capaldi as the Doctor, behind the scenes with Jenna Coleman (Clara).
Capaldi has stepped on set for his first full day of filming "Doctor Who" season 8, which will premiere later this year. Of the experience, Capaldi has said, "New job, first day, slightly nervous. Just like the Doctor, I'm emerging from the TARDIS into a whole other world." Meanwhile, lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat has said in a statement, "First the eyebrows! Then, at Christmas, the face! Coming soon, the whole Doctor. In the Cardiff studios, the Capaldi era begins."
Capaldi is filming the first two episodes first, the first written by Steven Moffat and the second by Phil Ford, with both directed by Ben Wheatley. They will be filming in Cardiff until August 2014.
Something to note about the photo that BBC America has released: This is not the Doctor's new costume.
"Doctor Who" season 8 will air later this year on BBC America. What do you think of Peter Capaldi's Doctor so far?
