There are many reasons why we love Doctor Who, a regenerating 1000-year alien who travels through time and space in his time machine/phone booth with an array of sidekicks and fashion accessories. Who could have guessed he’d last 50 years (and counting!). The first Doctor was played by William Hartnell from 1963-1966. At age 55, Hartnell was the oldest actor ever to play the Doctor. Fast forward to the current era—the role is being played by Matt Smith who, at age 27, is the youngest ever to play the role.
So, why do we love the Doctor? He can transform himself into a completely new person, allowing the character to evolve and change with the times. Of course, he’s got great fashion sense (Smith wears an iconic bowtie and fez and amazing hair). He’s even a role model; imperfect, but always trying to do the right thing. He’s usually quirky, kind, and creative—it’s easy to cheer for him.
The favorite Doctors of all time include David Tennant (2006-2009), Tom Baker (1974-1981), and Matt Smith (2010-2013). Do you have a favorite Doctor? Please share in the comments, and be sure to check out this infographic presented by DirectSelectTV.com to learn more!
