In a year of celebrations geared towards the 50th anniversary of ”Doctor Who”, one fan started an amazing event to benefit a great cause. Sara, or Princess Seven, began the “Doctor Who” 50th Anniversary Fun Walk/Run for fans to get together to benefit Boston Marathon Victims Relief. Participants can register online through October 14th, 2013, and can choose which run works out the best for them.
While adults can choose between the 5k run or walk and the half marathon run or walk, children can also participate in the 1 Mile Kids Fun Run. Registration costs are $20 per adult and $10 per child. In addition, you can also purchase fun merchandise that also benefits Boston Marathon Victims Relief. Since this is a virtual event, you can complete the distances however works best for you as long as it is complete by November 30, 2013. Once you have finished the event, you will receive an amazing medal to commemorate the event.
In a recent sit down with Princess Seven, she opened up about the event and her “Doctor Who” fandom.
Q. What was the inspiration for the Doctor Who Virtual Run?
A. It is the 50th anniversary and when Boston bombing happened I thought about a run to raise funds for the victims of this, and I am a huge fan of the show and well wanted my own Whovian bling.
Q. Are you a fan of the show? If so, when did you begin watching it?
A. I am a huge fan of the show my very first doctor was Jon Pertwee Doctor, number 3, and I have watched ever since then. Even to the point of knowing some episodes pretty much by heart now.
Q. How many registered runners do you have so far?
A. I thought I would be lucky to get 50 registrants at first even I did not know the power of Doctor Who and the last count we have over 1800 registered might be nearer 1900 now.
Q. What has been the most challenging aspect of this event?
A. Ordering the right amount of medals and never having enough so having to order more. The last order was number nine.
Q. What is the most fulfilling part of hosting this event?
A. Seeing people get their medal and love it and knowing we are doing some good for the Boston victims. I think we are going to raise at least $10,000 by the end to send to Boston.
