This year's "Doctor Who" Christmas special is going to be bittersweet, as it will be Matt Smith's final appearance as the Eleventh Doctor, and on Wednesday, Dec. 4, BBC America released promotional photos and a poster teasing "The Time of the Doctor."
This "Doctor Who" Christmas episode's synopsis reads, "Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe’s deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars. And amongst them – the Doctor. Rescuing Clara from a family Christmas dinner, the Time Lord and his best friend must learn what this enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe."
The "The Time of the Doctor" poster, key art, and photos in the slideshow are, of course, festive for the occasion. The photos offer a look at the Doctor and Clara walking in the snow, but why does he have his sonic screwdriver out? Which of his enemies could be just around the corner?
Meanwhile, the posters and key art offer teases of the enemies coming in this episode (also shown in the "The Time of the Doctor" promo that was released after the 50th anniversary special). Pus, there's the ominous tag line, "A change is going to come…" As we all know, the end of this episode will see Matt Smith's Doctor regenerate and we'll be introduced to Peter Capaldi's Doctor, who was very briefly seen in "The Day of the Doctor."
The "Doctor Who" 2013 Christmas special, "The Time of the Doctor," airs Wednesday, Dec. 25, at 9 p.m. on BBC America. What do you think of these new images?
