A doctor was killed in his office Monday afternoon at his Newport Beach medical office in California, Huffington Post reports Jan. 29. Stanwood Fred Elkus of Lake Elsinore was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing Dr. Ronald Franklin Gilbert, 52. He is being held on $1 million bail.
Elkus was found with Gilbert at the scene of a second-floor medical building after police responded to 911 calls following about six shots heard.
A neighbor -- James Lord -- knew the suspect had prostate surgery, but didn't know if Gilbert was his doctor.
Gilbert was a urologist who treated patients with prostate and cancerous issues -- as well as performing vasectomies. He was also the mastermind behind for creating a preventative medication for premature ejaculation.
Lord went on to say that he knew the murder suspect would talk about his guns and go to the target range for practice. He never heard him complain about Gilbert, however.
A motive for killing the doctor in his office isn't known and police haven't disclosed what they found in Elkus' home.
An autopsy for Gilbert will be performed Wednesday.
