Doctor killed in office, 70-year-old suspect arrested

A doctor was killed in his office on Mon., Jan. 28, 2013. The incident took place on the second floor of a Southern California medical building near Hoag Hospital located at 520 Superior Avenue in Newport Beach. The physician suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso, according to a report by FOX News.

Someone phoned the police to report six or seven shots fired at approximately 2:45 p.m. When police responded to the scene, they found the doctor killed in the office. He was lying dead inside a patient examination room. The suspect was still in the room with the victim.

Police placed the unidentified suspect under arrest. Fortunately there were no other victims. Authorities are trying to determine the relationship between the alleged gunman, an unnamed 70-year-old patient, and the doctor killed in the office. The identity of the victim has not yet been released, but he was a doctor with Orange Coast Urology, according to Los Angeles Times.
