The California Department of Boating and Waterways has announced their 2012 Training schedule for the highly respected Dockwalkers Program. Seven training classes are scheduled between February and June to train the 2012 volunteers. The first program, aimed at training boaters and volunteers in the Los Angeles area, will be in Newport Beach.
The Dockwalker Program is a section of the California Clean and Green Environmental Program, a part of the California Department of Boating and Waterways. Dockwalkers are volunteers committed to help boaters and boating businesses promote a cleaner environment.
Dockwalkers distribute literature and information to boaters and the general public at boat shows, marinas, launch ramps and other places boaters congregate. The goal is to continue to reduce the impact of pollution on the waters of California. By educating the public, the Dockwalkers are able to pass out information and answer questions about ways to improve the quality of water in California rivers, bays, lakes, and ocean.
The training sessions currently scheduled will be held on the following dates:
· February 25 Newport beach
· March 3 Modesto
· March 24 Ventura
· March 31 Sonoma
· April 5 Vallejo
· April 28 San Diego
· May 12 Eureka
The sessions are open to any individual wanting to help keep California waters clean. The training sessions are free and information and registration materials are available through the California Boating website.
The Dockwalker program has handed out thousands of sets of training programs and materials over the past ten years. It is a great program and by becoming a Dockwalker, you can make a positive impact on cleaner boating and the California environment.
Go boating, be safe and have fun!
