The release of Gilad Shalit brings up many things for many people. For me, it brings up thoughts about freedom. While Shalit remained without the basic freedoms we all enjoy for so long, we went on free to:
- do what we chose
- enjoy what we chose
- eat what we chose
- watch what we chose
- go where we chose
- talk to whom we chose
- see what we chose
- spend time with whom we chose
The question is: Did we choose? Or did we choose wisely? Maybe even better, did we choose consciously?
Each and every one of us has free will, but how do we use that free will? Do we consciously make choices in our lives so that we have the ability to do the things that
- give us joy
- bring us love
- create peace in our lives and in others
- help us fulfill our potential
- help us become better people
- allow us to help others
Or do we unconsciously do things that bring us:
- hate
- anger
- disconnection
- obstacles
- stagnation
- emptiness
- loneliness
- anxiety
- chaos
Any person who has ever had their freedom taken away for any amount of time, such as Gilad Shalit, surely considered the choices he or she would make if and when possible. Do you consider those choices every day since you are, in fact, free? Maybe it’s time to start.
