Do you stand in the gate of the Lord’s house?

A Daily Word from the Word for Wednesday, July 23, 2014

“The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying, ‘Stand in the gate of the Lord’s house, and proclaim there this word, and say, ‘Hear the word of the Lord, all you of Judah who enter in at these gates to worship the Lord!’” – Jeremiah 7:1-2

Where are you standing, family? As sons and daughters of the Most High God, we have a place and position in the Father’s Kingdom! Are you standing outside the gate looking in, my brother? Or are you not standing at all, my sister? It’s important that we know where to stand, and where we stand in Jesus Christ, our Righteousness.

“Stand,” as used in this verse, is amad (pr. aw-mad), meaning “to stand in various relations (literally and figuratively), abide (behind), dwell, establish, tarry” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance). As Kingdom dwellers, recruiters, and builders, we are to relate to others from a position in the kingdom of God, drawing wisdom, power, and authority from this place and position given to us through Christ for the purpose of conducting Kingdom business.

Those things that God has already established by His Word, we are to come into agreement with and establish on this earth. The Apostle John pointed to this foundation as he declared “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made” (John 1:1-3). Jesus Himself gave us our Kingdom mandate when He uttered “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 8:18). And Job settled the matter as he proclaimed “You will also decree a thing, and it will be established for you; and light will shine on your ways” (Job 22:28).

How are you doing with your Kingdom mandate, family? It all starts with spending regular and uninterrupted time in the presence of the Father and feasting on His Word. Jesus declared “No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you” (John 15:15). And God draws us even closer when he lovingly decreed “You did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father’” (Romans 8:15).

This gate that we are to stand in, is the sha-ar (pr. shah-ar), which is a “split or opening.” Jesus Himself created this gate, this place and position for us when He declared “It is finished” from the Cross (John 19:30), and gave up His Spirit. “And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split…So when the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying, ‘Truly this was the Son of God!’” (Matthew 27:50-54).

John 10:9 testifies of this truth as it proclaims the Words of Christ: “I [Jesus] am the gate [door]; whoever enters through Me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture.” Jesus The Christ is the gate; we are positioned and hid in Him when we accept the King of kings and Lord of lords as our personal Lord and Savior, receiving His atoning Blood as payment in full for our sins—past, present, and future. “For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus. Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (Colossians 3:3, Ephesians 2:7, Hebrews 4:16).

Do you believe who God says you are, my brother? Do you accept the unconditional love and forgiveness of the Father, brought forth through the Son, my sister? To the degree that you believe and operate in this truth determines where you stand in the Kingdom. And Jesus Himself says that we “just believe” (Luke 8:50). It’s that simple, family. The devil will have you believe that it’s much harder than that, but the devil is a liar! Our Big Brother Jesus did the hard part, so we can just believe and enter in.

So what are you waiting for? Let’s head for the gate and settle in to Jesus!

Father, we believe, help our unbelief (Mark 9:24). Help position us at Your gate, and settle in to Jesus. We repent for believing the lies of the devil, and giving in to fear and doubt concerning Who You are, and what Your Word says about us. Help us to be more secure in our knowledge of who You called us to be, which are Your sons and daughters. Keep us in Your Kingdom, Oh God, where we shall dwell for all eternity. In Jesus Name, we thank You for carving us in the palm of your most capable, protective, and loving hands (Isaiah 49:16). Amen and Amen.

Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, trusting Him to add everything you need to your life (Matthew 6:33). Forsake the shoddy ways of the world for the Sure Way of the Lord, Who is Jesus Christ. And continue to fight the good fight of standing at the gate of your Father’s house; for God, your Gracious Gate Keeper, has already given you the victory!

If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins—past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!
