Do You Really Believe?

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16)

Perhaps the most well memorized verse in the bible. While these words easily roll off of our tongue, do we embrace its meaning with true conviction? What does Jesus really mean by “believe”? Jesus pointed out that even the demons believe that He was the son of God. But they are not saved. He was not simply stating that the acquiring of intellectual knowledge about Jesus results in salvation and eternal life. Belief in this context means an act of the will, a commitment to place your complete trust in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and salvation. It means that we recognize God as the singular authority over our lives and that He has a purpose for everything that He allows to happen. It means that our top priority is our relationship with Him – we desire to know Him, worship Him, and understand His will for our lives and obey Him. We have true faith in Him that He will keep all of the promises He makes in His holy word. Our lives are completely transformed…….Do you really believe?
