The first step is to go to the Child Care Copay Calculation page at Oregon.gov and put in your information. The calculator is only a guide, not a guarantee that you will qualify, but it will give you a ballpark of what your copay will be.
What is a copay?
A copay is the difference between the maximum amount DHS will cover and the amount of subsidy you qualify for.
Who does DHS pay?
Your child care provider will fill out the necessary DHS forms and have you sign them every month before submitting them for payment. DHS sends payment directly to the child care provider.
How much time will DHS cover?
Eligibility depends on income, size of family, hours of work.
DHS payments are accepted by both centers and in-home programs. Contact your child care provider to find out if they accept DHS subsidy money.
