A Daily Word from the Word for Thursday, July 24, 2014
“Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: ‘Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.’ – Jeremiah 7:3
How are you dwelling these days, family? The Hebrew word for “dwell,” as used here, is shakan (pr. shaw-kan), which is “through the idea of lodging, abide, rest” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance). Regardless of what is going on around us, including those times when all hell breaks loose, we should be in a state of rest that surpasses all understanding, because when we are in Christ and He lives in us, He is our rest (Philippians 4:7, Matthew 11:28).
If you are not resting like you should, then maybe you need to amend some things. To “amend” (yatab, pr. yaw-tab) is “to make well, sound beautiful, happy, successful, aright, diligent.” Webster’s Dictionary defines “aright” as “correctly, to change something so that it is right, true, and proper.”
How’s your conversation, my brother? What beautiful sounds are coming from your mouth in terms of your speech, my sister? Are you speaking life or death, family? Are you building up or tearing down? Philippians 4:8 draws our focus to the highest mountaintops as it proclaims “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
Our “ways” (derek, pr. deh-rek) are “our course of life, conversations, custom, manner”; and our “doings” (maalal, pr. mah-al-awl) are our “deeds, practices, acts.” Are your conversations and acts lining up with the Word of God? Are you practicing what the Good Lord preaches? Is your course of life heading toward the Cross of Christ, or are you sailing into a shipwreck? The more in line you are with the Living Word of the Holy Father, the more at rest you will be in Christ Jesus.
So what about it family, ready to get some rest? Me too! Let’s fluff up the Word and get a good night’s sleep.
Father, we cry out to You, as the psalmist King David did: “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139-23-24). Pour out Your Holy Spirit of conviction upon us that we may know what and how to make amends concerning our ways and doings. In Jesus Name, we thank You that we are a sweet fragrance unto Your nostrils, and we remain at constant rest in Your Son. Amen and Amen.
Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to spend the remainder of this week in prayer and repentance over your ways and doings. Ask God to show you, convict you, and release you of those things that are undesirable to Him, and hindering your walk with your Holy Father. And continue to fight the good fight of dwelling in good places; for God, your Green Pasture, has already given you the victory!
If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins—past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!
