Do you need the lions’ mouths shut?

Silence the devil with God's Voice

A Daily Word from the Word for Wednesday, April 30, 2014

“My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.” – Daniel 6:22

Have you been feeling like you’re in the lions’ den lately, my brother? Are you hearing a lot of roaring these days, my sister? I know that I have! These past few months, I have been blustered with the hot breath of the beasts on my face.

Daniel was in a much direr situation. He was in a literal den filled with hungry lions that were purposely starved for days, prepped for such a time as this with some fresh meat! Imagine the scene with me for a moment: Daniel is forced into this dark den of ferocious and famished felines. I am sure these cats were licking their chops as this tenderloin was placed on their dinner tray.

But God had other plans for this faithful son! The Good Book declares that He sent His angel to shut the mouths of these carnivorous cats! Now isn’t that something! That’s so God!

The Hebrew word for “lion,” as used here is ariy (pr. ar-ee), which actually comes from the Chaldean word “aryeh” (pr. ar-yay) and means “in the sense of violence, lion, pierce” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance). What situations, circumstances, relationships, or thoughts have been bringing violence to your soul, my brother? Whose words, accusations, and slander have been piercing you, my sister? You don’t have to subject yourself to these false foes, family! Just call on your Protective Papa to shut their lying lips! Even in the midst of your situation, God will come in and silence those vicious voices around you and bring peace to your inner being.

These “mouths” are pum (pr. poom), which is “a literal or figurative mouth.” Did you catch that?! Even though the word is plural, the meaning is singular! Do you know why? There may be many voices, but they all come from one lying mouth—our adversary the devil. Yes, indeed, we have but one foe, and His name is Satan. He uses people, and speaks through them; but the bottom line is that he is the sole sucker with the single voice, which we have the power to shut! So stop looking at the symptoms, and stare at the source, which is Satan himself! Silence him with the Blood of the Lamb and the Word of your testimony! (Revelation 12:11).

The “mouths” used here also mean “as a means of blowing.” I bet Daniel felt a lot of hot air blowing in that room! What about you, family? Feeling a lot of hot air? Well, you know what hot air is all about—it’s about a lot of nothing!

1 Peter 5:8 warns “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” But here’s the rub: the Word of God refers to the devil as “like” a roaring lion. This deceptive demon isn’t even a real lion! He pretends to play one on TV! Are you catching this, kings and queens of the Most Holy God?!

The devil is an imposter! An imitator! I am on a roll today, folks! A HOLY GHOST ROLL! Peter is actually warning us about truth and deception, because if we know the truth, that the devil is already defeated, that this scoundrel is already under our feet, and we have complete authority over him through Christ, then we already see him for who he really is—an outdone imp, and not a king of the jungle! There is only one true King, family; and that is Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of Lords!

So the next time you feel the hot breath of a benign beast on your back, you know what to do: show him a mirror, so he can see the real King—King Jesus Who lives in you.

Father, we acknowledge You as our one true Voice. We call on You to silence the voice of the enemy on our behalf. We come into agreement with the apostle John, as we declare that we hear Your Voice clearly, accurately, and loudly; and the voice of a stranger we will not follow! (John 10:5). Help us, Holy Father, to shut out and silence the voices that come to harass, belittle, defame, slander, guilt, condemn, and tear down. In Jesus Name, we thank You that You have anointed our ears with Your ears, and we hear what You allow us to hear in the Spirit and natural realms, with Your Holy Spirit as our Guide, Protector, Translator, Revelator, and Comforter. Amen and Amen.

Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to forsake the voice of the enemy for the Voice of the Savior. Make a daily practice of renewing your mind with the Mind of Christ, and casting down every thought that attempts to exalt itself above the Name of God (Romans 12:2, 2 Corinthians 10:5). And continue to fight the good fight of turning a deaf ear to the devil; for God, your Divine Voice of Reason, has already given you the victory!

If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins—past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!
