The bisexual literary fiction anthology I'm editing is almost ready to publish but I'm looking for a few more very specific stories.
I am seeking stories that illuminate something about the experience of being bi. This is what I need:
1. At least one story about African American or black chracters.
2. At least one story about Latino/Latina characters.
3. One bi same-sex marriage story. With either a bi couple as the main characters, or a bi character partnered with a same-sex lesbian or gay character. The couple could either be getting married or is already married.
I do have a Two Spirit story and an Asian (Chinese-American) story but would consider more, if they are amazing. (If the story is Asian, I'd rather it was another kind of Asian than Chinese.)
I'm also open to stories with other kinds of POC and bi-racial/multiracial characters.
I'm especially interested in submissions from men, since we currently have more stories from women than men in the book. But women whose stories meet my criteria shouldnt hesitate to submit.
For the POC stories, I am not looking for a story that "happens" to be written by a POC writer, but reads like it could be about characters from any race. I already have plenty of stories that read universal or white. I am looking for stories that read like an African American story or a Latino story. I want to see details that bring that particular culture into the text and make it come alive. The story doesnt have to be "about" being black or Latino, but we should know that the characters are, and hopefully learn a little something about that culture or subculture.
Some types of relevant details I would like to see incorporated into the story: variations of skin tones, hair textures and styles, foods people from that culture would eat, music popular in that culture, religious or cultural rituals, locations frequented by that population, neighborhoods, the street scene, cultural attitudes, speech patterns and phrases, typical items of clothing or jewelry, household decorations.
The main criteria, of course, is that the story has to be well written.
Also: no erotica--this is a literary fiction anthology. Unless there is more story and character than sex, and it can be easily edited and converted into a literary fiction story, or pass for both.
Note: I have no interest in stories where the twist ending is that a character turns out to be bisexual. I'm also not very interested in stories where the bisexual character is cheating on their partner. I'm looking for bi characters and storylines that are not bisexual stereotypes.
Send your story as a Word doc to me at fuscialadybug (at) netzero (dot) com . In your email: Introduce yourself, tell me which category your story fulfills, give me a synopsis of the story, then attach your story as a Word doc.
Please spread the word to your writer friends and feel free to repost this notice in your blog or on your bisexual or writers email list.
Deadline: ASAP!
I'm really looking forward to the new submissions!
