Do we have a right to believe the best in Bishop?

I have received emails and questions about this case and I stand believing Bishop is innocent....not proven guilty. I have been reviewing this process and how the light has been placed on Bishop for shining so brightly. The focus began with his Bentley and the worldly possessions. The questions arose .....was he reporting his taxes accurately? When it was confirmed he reported accordingly the media got silent. If they are concerned about where the donations Bishop received went now......... what will they do when they see all of God's glory?

I can only think about the tragedies that occurred when we were too slow to come to our leaders defense. I think about how that quote resonates in my heart about Malcolm X. "That it was too much power for one black man." How has each leader been brought down? When we become divided and stop protecting the leaders God has sent us we lose. The church has been and will be under attack and we must prepare and learn from this.

I think about how when conspiracy theories surface that we need to truly evaluate them and know where the media coverage is coming from. Have we really dissected why these charges have surfaced? Have we really evaluated that just maybe the church has had too much influence in the political arena and the worlds view on homosexuality is being threatened. That just maybe the man of God stood on the word and that he is truly simply under attack. That just maybe people are tired of being forced to believe homosexuality is the norm. Maybe what is truly on trial here is not Bishop at all.

I stand believing the Body of Christ must see to it that Bishop is innocent for he has not been proven guilty. We must protect his children for they are the purest of the involved parties but is anyone thinking of them? I can hear his children crying out from the earth, praying that God must turn this around for their father. So it is important to keep it in the court room, giving each party their day to present their evidence and give Justice a fair opportunity!

    This is an interesting paragraph:

"I stand believing the Body of Christ must see to it that Bishop is innocent for he has not been proven guilty. We must protect his children for they are the purest of the involved parties but is anyone thinking of them? I can hear his children crying out from the earth, praying that God must turn this around for their father. So it is important to keep it in the court room, giving each party their day to present their evidence and give Justice a fair opportunity"

Are his children greater than the accusers? And why must the body of Christ see to it that he is innocent?

Isn't it the Body of Christ's responsibility to see to it that God's truth is revealed? And that we all are to love each other? Accuser and accused alike?

He is innocent according to the laws of this land........ for he has not been proven guilty. Again that is why we need to wait until all the evidence is in. We don't know what the accusers are until all the evidence is presented.

Are you dealing with the "Laws of this land" or with God? The "laws of this land" don't always reveal the truth.

We don't know what he is either. So why can we not stand neutral? I see this a lot from people who claim to be part of the "body of Christ" in this matter. However the only people you ask to protect are Eddie Long and his family.

Why do you not ask for the same of the accusers? They are being trashed and dragged through the mud. Are we not to protect them too?

The Bible instructs us to honor the laws of the land. We are not trashing anyone. The world is presenting it's theories and the Body of Christ is presenting it's theories, isn't that how it is? The Body of Christ should be on the same team.

We are asking that we all wait for the evidence to be presented before we assume the worst. His children are not participants and should be protected. The young men who brought the accusations will have their day in court....... so will Bishop and then we can decide once the evidence is presented. Appears we are asking for the same yet we have differing opinions as we wait.

    Denise,
It just seems that you are picking and choosing when to adhere to the law of the land, and when to adhere to Christian principles of compassion and love.

Eddie Long, too, will have his day in court. However you plainly state that Christians should "see to it that he is innocent." Virtually saying we should protect him.

When I suggest that the same is due to the boys accusing him, you say "well they will have their day in court." Christian love and compassion are not mutually exclusive with "a day in court."

So are you suggesting that we, as Christians, withhold our love and compassion for the boys until after the outcome of the trial? That is nowhere near the teachings of Christ. Even He showed compassion for the man who was convicted hanging on the cross beside him.

In my opinion (this is mine and mine alone) Christians need to stop acting like some type of clique and start acting more like Christ. "The Body of Christ" is not some type of fraternal order. It is the holy spirit that dwells within those of us who believe.

We do a disservice to The Lord when we treat Christianity like some type of social club where the members of specific orders/levels are treated in a "holier than thou" manner and the other servants of His word are treated like paupers.

No man walking this earth is above any other person walking this earth. The same love, protection and compassion due Eddie Long is due his accusers.

And you are not picking and choosing by requesting that we show sympathy to the young men? I also stated both sides will have their day in court.

Why should Christians always have to accept the dirt or make the sacrifice, we are not door mats. We are no less human and we have a right to have our thoughts as the world does. Are you giving Bishop the same treatment that you yourself would want?

In order to protect his children it is important that we wait until the day when all evidence will be presented.

This view on double standards is amazing. You can judge us but always throw in don't judge me. Why does the world deserve more sympathy than a Christian?

The body of Christ means we are one body and should operate as such. The holy spirit will guide us.

You are simply twisting my words, the fact is he is innocent in this land until proven otherwise and therefore, we should abide by the law.
