Dallas designer and menswear fashion extraordinaire Jim Duran has literally left Dallas high. High off of life, high off of energy and high off of stellar fashion. Duran premiered his long-awaited spring and summer BLKLN 2014 collection at the trendy and posh Aloft hotel in Dallas on September 12, 2013 and the presentation was nothing less than stellar.
Pre-show, the bar and lobby area of Aloft bustled with the who's who in Dallas fashion along with fashion enthusiasts that spanned across all genders, personalities and uniqueness of styles. This in itself was a testament to the beauty of the BLKLN brand--an unspeakable power to unify all and inspire many to push beyond the bounds of ordinary fashion in an effort to explore a more creative interpretation of what is defined as fashion-forward.
The BLKLN spring and summer 2014 collection appeared to be an unintentional nod towards androgyny--showcasing a flavorful mix of floral print patterns, low-scooped necklines and sheer materials; all characteristics of styles that are coveted by both men and women. Duran cunningly shook things up a bit with this latest presentation as the men rocked the florals better than any fashionista could on this side of the Trinity River.
And don't you dare think that floral prints on men are for pansies--BLKLN demonstrated how to mix and match floral prints on the male silhouette for an effortless way to achieve sheer perfection for the warmer seasons. It was preppy-chic meets urban style in this jaw-dropping "perfect-for-Dallas" collection leaving the crowd wondering, "Where and when can I purchase?"
Creatively inspired by the beauty locales of Miami, Ibiza, St. Bart's and Santorini--the travel friendly collection fostered daydreams of yacht parties, walks on the beach and sayings of "BLKLN take me away!" (Sorry Calgon.).
The unanimous winner for the night was awarded to the BLKLN overalls showcased in all black and another in a psychadelic mixture of vibrant colors and patterns. Styled on both a male and female model, this overall crowd pleaser will be the best-seller (you read it here first.)
All in all, this collection well surpassed the already high expectation that Duran set for himself after last year's debut of BLKLN. Recently the designer posted on social media that he is already fantasizing about his fall and winter 2014 collection--but you can take it from us Jim...that after this recent show, you deserve to kick back, relax and bask in its overwhelming success. Oops, you've done it again.
