In today's Do It All Mamas (& Papas) the spotlight is on children's author Florida Vigil, mom of one now-adult-daughter.
Examiner: Tell me something unique/interesting about yourself.
Florida: Besides writing which is my passion; I like to play the quitar and sing, work out at the gym, speed walk, do volunteer work, hike, travel, and spend time with family and friends.
Examiner: Tell me about your books.
Florida: My first book was Embracing Life Poems that inspire the heart and soul. It was a book about beauty, life, love, family, and prayer. My most recent book is A Child's Imagination Childhood Poems, a book that energizes a child's imagination and inspires them to be creative and encourages the child to explore, learn, and have fun.
Examiner: Why did you start writing children's books?
Florida: I started writing children's books because when I was a child books always has an impact on me and my family. I was always encouraged to read and recite poetry. Books still have an impact on me.
Examiner: What secret do you have to share with other parents about "having it all" with your family and business?
Florida: Honor family and friends. Family always comes first in my life. Always give l00% to whatever you do, be passionate about what you do, always believe you have what it takes to succeed, never give up your dreams. I have been married for 47 years and am a retired nurse after 30 years.
Examiner: What is the number one piece of advice you have for other parents?
Florida: Always have the door of communication open, be a role model for your children, never criticize, always encourage your children, praise a child for trying and for doing the very best they can.
Examiner: What is your (and your kids) favorite family activity?
Florida: Hiking.
Examiner: Anything else you want to add?
Florida: Be positive, set goals, have faith, it's never too late to make your dreams come true.
