First, comes chocolate.

At Wilmar Chocolates you can decide what ingredients you want in a large, yummy made-to-order chocolate bar.

At Vande Walle's Candies you can watch the melting, blending, mold-making process and sample some yummy pieces before deciding what to take to nosh on for the rest of your drive.

Then there's cheese. You can’t drive through Wisconsin without stopping at a cheese shop. At Simon’s you will find really good, aged cheddar plus several other cheese options and items to taste.

When looking for a place for dinner, consider Zuppa’s, a gourmet deli-restaurant in nearby Neenah. Or make a reservation at Appollon, an upscale, delightful Greek restaurant in Appleton.

It may sound as if Appleton is all about treats but it has the fascinating History Museum in a castle-like former Masonic Temple. Go there to see and try Harry Houdini's tricks and learn a bit about his life, shows and why Appleton is the place he considered his hometown. The museum is across from Lawrence University.
