DNR says they will ask to drop the charges against the Councellers

Just under a week ago I began reporting about the doe known as Little Orphan Dani from Connersville, Ind. who was rescued by Jeff and Jennifer Counceller. Since then the couple has been on "Good Morning America" and has done several other nationwide interviews. The Pagan community in the Puget Sound and others world wide have been sharing their story and signing petitions all week. The DNR was not backing down and was pressing charges against the couple which could have resulted in 60 days of jail time and additional fines. With all of the nation wide attention the DNR announced on Feb. 1, 2013 that they are going to ask for the charges to be dropped.

There has been a huge out pouring of support for the couple and what they did for the little fawn. After review of the case, Governor Mike Pence has asked the DNR to reevaluate the charges against the couple. Of course, with the petitions circulating and emails and letters flooding his and other inboxes and mail boxes it comes as no surprise that he would find the need to review the case in further detail. As a result of the review, the DNR states that they will ask for a dismissal of the charges. For Little Orphan Dani, Jeff and Jennifer Counceller, and all of the supporters world wide, this is a huge success. For Pagans its confirmation that when we do good things for our Mother’s creatures and stand and fight together that we will win.

In 2010 Jeff Counceller, who is a Connersville police officer, found the fawn on a front porch with severe maggot-infected wounds. Jeff and his wife, Jennifer, nursed the little fawn back to health and raised her to full adult size. Just a few weeks before her scheduled release back to the wild, the DNR made a visit to their home and instructed the couple that the deer would need be put down. It seems that the Great Mother was not ok with the DNR murdering the innocent fawn and someone, not Jeff or Jennifer, left the pen open and freed the deer which prevented the cruel deed from taking place.

With the Governor stepping in and the DNR stating that they will ask to drop the charges it is looking very good, however, the fight is not over just yes so don’t forget about the petition to drop the charges against the Counceller’s, Little Orphan Dani Counceller’s Facebook page, the Facebook fan page, or the fundraiser for the legal defense of the Counceller’s. The Pagan community in the Pacific Northwest stands behind you and sends you our love and support.
