DJ Rashad was found dead in his West Chicago home by a friend Sunday. The Chicago police said that when the friend went to DJ Rashad home, he found him unresponsive. The 35-year-old Rashad was pronounced dead on the scene when the first responders arrived, according to Hollywood Life on April 27.
Preliminary reports suggest that DJ Rashad died of a drug overdose, but the official cause of death has not yet been released. DJ Godfather was the first to make a public announcement about Rashad’s death. He was due to perform in Detroit tonight with DJ Spinn and DJ Rashad.
Chance the Rapper tweeted “music lost a legend today.” Chance the Rapper is “often seen on stage collaborating with Justin Bieber,” sees this as a major loss to music, but especially to the Chicago dance community. Rashad was Chi-town’s authority on “footwork,” which is a “frenzied and hypnotic” dance style, extremely popular in Chicago.

Fans are reminded today about how the hip hop rapper started out in high school gyms and neighborhood dances then eventually worked his way up to clubs and clubs and rock festivals. Today most of the hip hop generation in Chicago is acquainted with Rashad’s music and dance work.
