These pumpkin barrettes are very easy and there is little sewing! This project is one that will make good use of the leftovers from other projects and good for beginners. They also make great fall gifts or favors.
Supplies:
· orange felt, approximately 8 X 8 inches, green felt approximately 4 X 2 inches
· brown embroidery floss
· Scissors
· Needle
Instructions:
- Draw a pumpkin that will be slightly bigger than the chosen snap barrette.
- Cut it out.
- Trace the pumpkin on to the felt.
- Cut the felt in the shape of the pumpkin and repeat, so that you will end up with two pumpkin shapes.
- Arrange the snap barrette on one of the pumpkins, so that the entire barrette is covered by the pumpkin.
- Snip a small hole into the pumpkin where the back of the snap barrette attaches to the front of the barrette.
- Slip the back of the barrette into the hole and snap it closed.
- Cut out of the green felt a shape resembling a leaf or stem, and topstitch it to the other pumpkin.
- Place the pumpkin with the green felt topstitched on it on top of the cutout secured in the barrette. The pumpkin without the hole snipped in it should be on top of the barrette, and the other pumpkin should still be secured in the barrette, with the back coming through the small hole that was cut.
- Using the brown embroidery floss, topstitch the pumpkins together, and secure the thread ends.
- It’s done!
Variations could be done using different colors of felt and embroidery floss.
