DIY Organic chemical-free weed killer

If you are battling weeds in your garden, but don’t want to use chemicals to control them, organic weed killers may do the trick. You can make your own organic weed killer with common household products that don’t pose a risk to small children and pets. Of course, this home remedy for killing weeds won’t kill the roots of the weeds, but with regular application it will kill the young shoots as they appear and with any luck the roots will wither and die after as few applications.

You will Need:

  • 1 gallon Vinegar
  • 1-tablespoon Dish Detergent
  • 1-cup Salt
  • Large Kettle
  • Spray Bottle

Pour the vinegar into a large stockpot or kettle. Add the cup of salt and heat until the salt dissolves in the vinegar, stirring occasionally.

Allow the vinegar and water to cool and add the dish detergent. Stir to mix thoroughly.

If you are tempted to try this without the dish detergent, don’t. The dish detergent helps the vinegar and salt to cling to the leaves and work their magic. Without it, the solution simply runs off the leaves with little effect.

Thoroughly wet the leaves and stems of weeds, preferably during the heat of the day. Most will wither and die within hours.
