Neck gaiters are a great alternative to scarves which can easily become snagged on bush you came too close too and pulled off. Neck gaiters make great gifts for the hunters (who may like to double their neck gaiters) or sports fans in your life. They are also great for kids since they stay in place and won't get drug along the ground as a scarf might. Mardi Gras parades have begun, and it is the perfect accessory for those chilly parades as you are left standing in the wind. They can be scrunched around the neck, or pulled up over your mouth and up over the back of the neck and tucked in a hat. They are affordable, especially since fleece is usually on sale! They are also EASY- with the option of sewing only one straight seam or sewing three seams. There are many options: solids versus prints, with prints including camouflage, John Deere, Hello Kitty, floral, plaid, stripes, polka dots, a favorite sports team, police themed, etc.
Supplies:
- measuring tape
- scissors
- fleece
- sewing machine
- thread
Instructions:
You will basically be making a tube, that can be pulled over the head, covering the neck. Cut the fleece 22"X12". The stretch of the fleece should be along the 22" side. In other words, the fleece should stretch a little the 22" side versus the 12" side. With right sides together, sew a seam along the 12" sides. The project could be done here since fleece does not unravel. The other option is to hem the two 22" ends for a more finished look. Trim the threads and it's done!
The supplies can be found at Joann Fabrics, Handcock Fabrics, or Wal Mart. All of the stores listed above have many locations in the Metairie, Louisiana area. If shopping at Joanns or Handcock, dont's forget to take a coupon!
