Supplies:

  • Thread, in the desired color
  • Wooden plaque, painted the desired color and dry
  • Small nails
  • Hammer
  • Computer, paper, and a printer
  • Measuring tape or ruler
  • Scissors

Instructions:

Using the computer, type the desired name, in the desired font and size. Print it and cut it out. Tape the letters onto the wooden plaque. Hammer the nails about one half inch into the plaque, spacing them evenly around the outline of the letters. Secure the end of the thread to a nail and using the thread, weave around the nails, staying on the inside of the outline of the letters. Make the thread in the outline of the letters as dense or as sparse as desired. Tie off the thread at the beginning and end of each letter until it is finished.

It's done!

Many variations can be made using different shaped plaques, different types and colors of thread, different fonts, etc.

The supplies can be found at Gary's Arts, Crafts, & Needlework, Inc., Joann Fabrics, Michaels, or Wal Mart. All of the stores listed above have many locations in the Metairie, Louisiana area.
