Fashion advice seems to be everywhere! And since the economy is so weak right now, many shows are now tailoring their fashion advice to budget-friendly ideas. This is great for most of us out there that want to look great without paying the top prices that celebrities do.
The Today Show is a wealth of knowledge in this area. Bobby Thomas, the style editor on the show, is fabulous! She always has great budget-conscious ideas as well as DIY (do it yourself) ideas.
Many of you may thinking the same as a this Gainesville resident and student; “I don’t even know how to sew, so DIY ideas are out of the question. And being a student, I don’t have much time to be crafty.’
But I am here to tell you that you do not have to be an expert at sewing to make these ideas come to life. They are all beginner level DIY ideas that are budget-friendly and easy to do.
1. Add Texture: By simply adding a little texture to a t-shirt or dress, you can completely transform your wardrobe! Use some extra fabric you have around the house (or scrap fabric from the craft store since you can usually get it really cheap) and a simple stitch to sew it on the item of clothing. You do not need a sewing machine to do this, as it doesn’t have to be perfect.
2. Cut it out: There are many shirts/dresses out now that have some fabric cut out of them. If you like this look, you can achieve it by taking the clothing and placing tape on the places that you would like the fabric cut out. Then simply take it to your seamstress and they will cut it out for you for a small fee.
There are other ideas on the Today Show website that also walk you through each process.
So decide to make a weekend project to at least try one of these ideas and see how it goes. You never know, you may just pick up a new hobby!
